I saw someone wanted to make paintings on tumblr but could not find a tutorial with still working pictures. I decided to give it a shot. This is my first tutorial and I do spend way tooo much time in SimPE daily so I may have missed a very simple step. If you have questions then please leave a comment and I will reply as soon as I am able.

Tools and files required:

a)
SimPE :http://sims.ambertation.de/en/download/

b) NVIDIA DDS Utilities :
https://developer.nvidia.com/content/dds-utilities-83111271645

Preparation :

Obtain all the necessary software and files as indicated above. In
SimPE Preferences enter the path of the Nvidia DDS Tool folder. The default is C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA DDS Utilities.

Now onto Recoloring!

1: Open Object Workshop.

2. Either click Start or Open (Start for Maxis/Open for Custom)

3. Through this you can find all of the buy item options. Go through Decorative and then Wall.

4. Choose which mesh you would like to recolor from the drop down list. Some are not recolorable without extra CEP files.

5. After pressing Next TWICE, you will prompted to save. Save with a descriptive name in a place you will be able to find it easily.

Step 6. After Saving SimPE should look like this. Clicking on the TXTR Image (The Green picture) then on Plugin View you will see your image like this. Right Click and click Export.

Step 7. Save the image in the same folder as the mesh so it's easier to find. You can change it's name too.

Step 8 (Two Parts)

In a paint program... If your mesh image is all painting then you can find out it's size in height and width. If not...

Then it may look something like this. If that is the case only copy the painting portion of the mesh into a new image file.
You then find out the size of your image. You will need these numbers to resize your painting that you want to use.

Step 9. In your potential painting resize as close as you can to the size of your painting mesh.
Do not turn scale or proportions off otherwise the potential painting will look very odd.

Step 10 (Two Parts)

Copy the resized potential painting onto the painting mesh. At first this will not look right because usually in either height or width the potential painting will be larger then the portion of the mesh!

Move the potential painting until you are satisfied with it on the mesh. You may lose a bit of the painting but this usually works out and looks alright anyways. If it is only part of the painting mesh then copy this part back onto the mesh and make certain it fits right! Then Hit save!

12. Go back into SimPE in the painting recolor file you created. Make certain you are in plugin view and have clicked on the TXTR Img again. Left click the Image and click Build DXT. If you installed Nividia DDS correctly this box should pop up! Then you must change Format to DXT 3 and Sharpen to None.

13. Click Open, find your saved recolored poster mesh. Click open one more time and then click Build.

14. The Final Step. A black box with white writing should have flashed up for a few seconds and now your image has changed to your recolor! REMEMBER, CLICK COMMIT! Otherwise the recolor wont stick! It will go back to the base. Then Save your file!

The recolor should now show up in game :D
